This free write was a part of my in class introduction to ENGL307
Any form of writing on a computer most likely on the internet such as blogging, social networking, internet articles, but could also be considered for newspaper articles today as they are most likely typed on a computer before handed to an editor, but also it seems that news media is moving away from hardcopy.
Novels and other forms of short stories are also typed digitally and they also seem to be moving away from print media as e-readers are becoming more prevalent.
It seems that pretty much every form of writing today is digital or at least my view of digital as nothing is really written or printed without the assistance of a computer and even than sources for this media is still most likely found on the internet.
Papers that are handwritten are still required to be typed and even sent to professors instead of being turned in the old fashioned way, whether that be because of the inability to read our handwriting or the convenience of getting all the papers through email
I use email, social networks, and type my papers for class.
“We Want it Now”
Digital writing is a way for us as a generation to get media as quickly as possible. We no longer want to wait for a newspaper to come out explaining to us about the movie or concert we just saw. We want to get on our smart phones as we are leaving the venue and/or theater and see what others are saying about the experience we just had. If a new song comes out we not only want to be able to download it immediately, but also we want to see what reviewers are saying about that song as we are listening to it. It’s not necessarily impatience but more a sense of always being plugged in, of always knowing what is going on and where the next important piece of information will come our way. All of this can be achieved through digital writing- blogs allow us to read this information instantaneously and I’m sure everyone can attest the number of movie and TV shows that have been ruined strictly through unwarranted Facebook posts. In today’s society it seems impossible to pinpoint exactly what digital writing is as it is constantly finding new venues to be expressed and through this expression continue to provide new ways for us to experience the digital world.
